About the Quincy Historical Society and Museum

The Quincy Historical Museum is located at 10 E. Jefferson Street. Erected in 1874 by a Seventh Day Adventist congregation, the building is the only brick church in the village and is among the oldest structures within the village of Quincy. With the efforts of volunteers from the community and the Quincy Historical Society the building has been restored, the grounds improved, and displays created with the many donated artifacts and memorabilia.  The museum can be toured from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the first Saturday of each month May through October or by appointment by calling Karen Hargreave at 517-639-4595.

The Society holds meetings on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM at the Quincy Village Hall.

Annual Meeting Highlights

Dear Quincy Historical Society Members and Friends,

On Saturday, June 3, we had the annual meeting and potluck at the Quincy Park Pavilion with approximately 30 people attending. The Quincy Firefighters were our honored guests. Preservation Awards were given to John Arnold and Richard Sattler for preserving their vintage Quincy Fire Trucks.

John owns the 1927 Chevrolet-Jaeger chemical truck and Richard Sattler owns the 1940 Ford V-8. That makes three fire apparatus that have been preserved from Quincy- stop by the museum and you will see the hose cart that was used in the 1870's. We are very fortunate to have these beautiful artifacts!  If you receive the Quincy Library newsletter, there will be stories about the firetrucks published in the upcoming one.

Displays showing Quincy Fire artifacts were set up for viewing. Also on hand was the newest truck owned by the Quincy Fire Department and the fellows were happy to showcase that. Tracy Richer with the help of her kids developed a facebook page and posted the days events. Look for it at Quincy Historical Society & Museum in Michigan. Thank you Tracy for getting that set up.

Thanks also to Dan & Mary Wentworth for hosting at the museum on that Saturday. The next openings will be July 1 & July 4.

The day was beautiful except for a 10 minute rain squall, but no one complained as we needed it badly. For those of you not attending, you missed some very delicious food and the famous Watt's Drug Store hot fudge! Thanks Teddy Sinclair for preparing that. It was finger-licking good.

Have a great summer!

Historically yours,

Karen Hargreave
